China is building a green forest city

China is making waves on its policy to combat air pollution in the country caused by intensive urbanization and industrialization.

China is known for its tall buildings scattered in major cities and also a lot of international hi-tech companies, working hard to beat its competitors from within and outside Asia.

Due to this there’s serious air pollution emitted by these companies everyday. Over one million people die in China every year from air pollution.

The atmosphere in China is filled with smog, that most times, while standing on the street level, it is nearly impossible to see to the top of the many skyscrapers scattered all over.

Because of this, Chinese government has decided to borrow the concept of the vertical forest built in Milan to tackle air pollution while restoring greenery to the built environment.

The world’s first “Forest City,” created to fight pollution, is now under construction in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province, China. Designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, a team that develops green projects all around the world.

Its construction of this forest city will help arrest air pollution within the city hereby leaving people with fresh air to breath, increase noise breakers, create home for habitats and improve local biodiversity in the region.

Liuzhou Forest City will be built in the north of Liuzhou, in the mountain area of Guangxi, in the southern part of China; in an area that covers 175 hectares along the Liujiang river.

Liuzhou Forest City will contain up to 70 buildings scattered with trees and green vegetation from ground to roof (with solar panels over the roofs). It is expected to house over 30,000 residents while hosting over 1 million plants of over 100 species, and 40,000 trees that together absorb almost 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide and 57 tons of pollutants, and produce approximately 900 tons oxygen annually.

Liuzhou Forest City will comprise commercial zones, residential areas, recreational spaces, a hospital, and two schools.

This huge project was commissioned by Liuzhou Municipality Urban and is expected to be completed by 2020.

The city of liuzhou and the forest city will be connected by electric train railway.

We hope that with this, China will win the fight against pollution.
